Job Summary
The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible for conducting incoming, in-process, and final inspections on printed wiring boards (PWBs), circuit card assemblies (CCAs), electrical harnesses, and thermal blanket insulation. The inspector ensures all products meet engineering drawings, IPC standards, and customer specifications, specifically focusing on reliability in aerospace or harsh-environment applications.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) & Printed Wiring Board (PWB) Inspection: Perform inspections using high-magnification microscopy to IPC-A-610 or IPC-A-600 standards, verifying component orientation, solder joint integrity, cleanliness, and conformal coating.
Electrical Harness & Cable Inspection: Inspect electrical harnesses for proper connector crimping, soldering, routing, wire stripping, labeling, and continuity testing according to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
Thermal Blanket Inspection: Examine Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) blankets and thermal insulation for proper layering, stitching, material integrity, and dimensional conformance, ensuring high-reliability, zero-defect quality.
Non-Conformance Reporting: Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming materials and initiate Failure Analysis (MRB) reports.
Documentation & Traceability: Review shop travelers, data sheets, and certificates of compliance (C of C) to ensure full traceability of components and materials.
Required Skills & Competencies
Certification: IPC-J-STD, IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification is required (or ability to attain).
Technical Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and BOMs (Bills of Materials).
Inspection Tools: Proficiency with digital microscopes, multimeters, calipers, micrometers, and pull-test machinery.
Aerospace Standards: Experience working within AS9100 and ISO9001 quality management systems.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional visual acuity for identifying fine defects in electronics and materials.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in electrical/mechanical quality inspection (Aerospace experience preferred).
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to interface directly with customers.
- Eligibility: US Citizenship required (due to ITAR/Defense contracts).
Salary Range: $50,000 – $65,000

The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or type using keyboards, The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to work in an ESD-protected environment.
The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and identify colors.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position is full-time 40 hours per week. Typically, day and core hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
