Application Development Engineer – 3M

Impact of the Role

  • Lead initiatives to drive growth through customer collaboration, new applications, and commercialization of optical products.
  • Advance products independently and with teams, ensuring alignment with customer needs and industry standards.
  • Apply and enhance knowledge of technical, product, market, and competitive information to support product development.
  • Collaborate with internal and external networks to drive innovation.
  • Provide technical support to customers and create commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expand application space for existing EBO products.
  • Develop understanding of application spaces.
  • Identify product modifications or technical changes to enable new applications.
  • Initiate development of new applications.
  • Support products and applications to customers, expanding opportunities and reducing risks.
  • Communicate and coordinate with global teams and internal stakeholders.

Skills and Expertise

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Science.
  • 5 years of application development experience (private, public, government, or military).
  • 1 year of hands-on lab work (mechanical or analytical testing).

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with strong technical and commercial skills.
  • 7 years of experience in optical application development or optical design.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment including optical fiber testing and microscopes.
  • Leadership and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and innovate.

Location & Work Authorization

  • Location: Austin, TX (On-site)
  • Travel: Up to 10% domestic/international
  • Relocation: May be authorized
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $141,150 – $172,517 (base + variable incentive pay, US applicants)
